Bosnia highlights in 7 days
Quick answer
Seven days are enough to see the country's best-known places without rushing: two nights in Sarajevo, two in Mostar for the Herzegovina waterfalls, one in Jajce and a last night back near the airport. The longest drive, Mostar to Jajce, is about 165 km — a little over three hours without stops.
Why this route works
The order is deliberate. Sarajevo first lets you recover from the flight in one hotel for two nights. Mostar is the right base for the south: Blagaj, Počitelj and Kravica are all within about 40 km of the town. Coming back north through Rama Lake and Jajce turns the trip into a loop, so you never drive the same road twice.
Driving is spread out. The longest day, Mostar to Jajce past Rama Lake, is about 165 km on mountain roads — a little over three hours without stops — so we plan it with a long lunch stop at the lake. The other travel days are 95–125 km.
Change it
Prefer fewer hotel changes? Stay in Sarajevo and Mostar only and visit Jajce as a day trip from Sarajevo. Travelling with small children? Look at the slower 9-day family holiday.
Who it suits
- First-time visitors who want the classic places in one week
- Couples and friends travelling at a moderate pace
- Families with children who can manage two to three hours in a car on some days

Questions travellers ask
Is seven days enough for Bosnia and Herzegovina?
For the best-known places, yes. With ten days you can add Una National Park in the north-west — about 300 km from Sarajevo — or slow the pace with an extra day in Mostar. Our 7-day itinerary guide compares the options.
Can we do this as a self-drive trip?
Yes. The route is easy to drive in summer. We can arrange a rental car and you keep the same hotels and notes.
Can we swim at Kravica?
Swimming has traditionally been possible in summer in the marked area, but the rules and season are set by the site's management and can change. We check the current situation for your dates.
Can we start in Mostar or fly out of Mostar?
Yes. We can reverse the route or end it in Mostar if your flights allow. Tell us your airports when you request a quote.
