Quick answer
Konjic sits on the Neretva about 58 km from Sarajevo — under an hour by road — and is the first stop on the way to Mostar. Its Ottoman stone bridge, rebuilt in 2009, crosses the turquoise river in the middle of town. Visitors also come for Tito's underground bunker, the town's woodcarving and rafting in the Neretva canyon.
The gateway to Herzegovina
Konjic is where the landscape changes: south of the town the Neretva turns turquoise and the valley narrows into a canyon. The six-arched stone bridge in the centre is the town's symbol; destroyed at the end of the Second World War, it was rebuilt stone by stone and reopened in 2009.

Most travellers stop here for coffee on the way to Mostar. Those with more time book a tour of the vast Cold War bunker hidden in the mountain, browse the woodcarving workshops, or spend a day rafting on the river.
Konjic is on the route of our Sarajevo–Mostar short break and the 7-day highlights.
